| O carcinoma de células escamosas “in situ”, citomorfologicamente maligno, apresenta-se restrito ao epitélio, sem invasão da membrana basal, sendo classificado como uma lesão pré-maligna, passível de progressão e metástase se o tratamento não for instituído. A apresentação multicêntrica, normalmente encontra-se relacionada à exposição a radiação ultravioleta e desenvolvimento inicial de dermatite actínica, no entanto, raramente pode desenvolver-se independentemente da exposição solar, em localização variável, sendo denominada Doença de Bowen. | Acute renal failure (ARF) can be caused by injuries that induce tissue hypoxia, which in turn can trigger adaptive or inflammatory responses. We previously showed the participation of basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF-2) in renal repair. Based on this, the aim of this study was to analyze the effect of FGF-2 signaling pathway manipulation at hypoxia-induced protein levels, as well as in key proteins from the vasoactive systems of the kidney. | The inducible inflammatory enzyme cycloxigenase-2 is up-regulated in cancer, and favors tumor progression. Cycloxigenase-2 is encoded by the prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2) gene, which presents sequence variations in the promoter region (PR) and in the 3′-untranslated region (3′-UTR). Different PR (rs689465, rs689466, rs20417) and 3′-UTR (rs5275) variants were generated by site-directed mutagenesis, and combined in haplotypes to access expression levels using a reporter system (luciferase) in human cells (MCF-7 and HEK293FT). | Arsenic is a testicular environmental toxic. Melatonin (Me), being a potent antioxidant, may reduce the damage caused by arsenic in male fertility. The effects of daily oral exposure of Sodium Arsenite (As; 7.0 mg/kg/bw); Melatonin (Me, 10.0 mg/kg/bw); Me (10.0 mg/kg/bw) plus As (7.0 mg/kg/bw), and Negative Control (NaCl 0.9%) in male CF-1 adult mice were assessed in acute (8.3 days), chronic (33.2 days) and recovery (66,4 days) of testicular damage. | The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) used in two different fluencies on injured skeletal muscle after cryolesion by means of histopathological analysis and immunohistochemistry for COX-2. A total of sixty male Wistar rats were randomly distributed into three groups: injured animals without any treatment; 808 nm laser treated group, at 10 J/cm² and 808 nm laser treated group, at 50 J/cm². Each group was divided into two different subgroups (n=10) on days 6 and 13 post-injury. | ABSTRACT Intestinal carcinomas are rare in dogs. The prognosis and survival time are dependent of the histological type, the invasion of the intestinal wall by the malignant cells and the ability of primary neoplasm to produce metastasis. This study reports a case of a Yorkshire dog that developed a rectal tubulopapillary adenocarcinoma progressing to a peritoneal carcinomatosis and multiple metastasis in large intestines, bladder, kidney, iliac lymph node, liver and lungs, six months after transanal surgical resection of the primary rectal neoplasm. | El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar el uso del piroxicam como tratamiento adjunto en un caso de carcinoma de células escamosas en un caballo. En septiembre de 2007, un caballo, macho castrado, raza Pura Sangre Inglés, de diez años de edad y 555 kg de peso fue referido a un oftalmólogo privado por presentar secreción mucoide abundante, hiperemia conjuntival y tejido granulomatoso en el tercer párpado del ojo izquierdo. Se inició tratamiento médico con antibiótico y antiinflamatorio, y se tomó biopsia del tejido granulomatoso presente en el tercer párpado. El resultado fue hiperplasia epitelial no tumoral.
